Dawson Leads Balanced Attack Past SOSU
January 21, 2006
Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State spread its scoring wealth around as six players finished in double figures in a 83-74 victory Saturday over Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The win improved SWOSU to 8-9 overall and 1-1 in the Lone Star Conference North Division.Julie Dawson (6-0, Sr., F, Arnett) led the way with 17 points and her basket at the 14:39 mark gave the Bulldogs the lead for good at 40-39. Although the Bulldogs never trailed after that point, they were unable to pull away from a scrappy Southeastern team.
SWOSU watched its lead slip to just one point late when SOSU’s Cassie Watson drilled a three-pointer at the 3:13 mark to make it 71-70. The Bulldogs answered with back-to-back three point baskets by Niki Sloan (5-9, Sr., G, Stigler) and Dawson to end SOSU’s late-rally attempt.
Joining Dawson in double-figure scoring was Andrea Oldham with 14, Sloan and Kayla Horn had 12 and Jessica Bailey and Dru Tomaszewski added 11 points.
SWOSU shot 51% (32-of-63) from the field and used a big edge (40-28) in the rebounding department to keep the Savages in a hole.
SOSU, which was led in scoring by Watson with 14 points, fell to 6-11 overall.
The Bulldogs will next play at home Wednesday against arch-rival Central Oklahoma. Tipoff for the men’s and women’s doubleheader is set for 6 p.m.
