Horn Plenty in SWOSU Win
February 15, 2006
Weatherford, OK- Kayla Horn did a little bit of everything scoring 29 points and pulling down 10 rebounds to lead Southwestern Oklahoma State to a 64-44 victory over Central Oklahoma Wednesday in Edmond. The victory was the Bulldogs seventh in eight games and lifted their overall record to 14-10 and kept them alone in first place of the Lone Star Conference’s North Division with a 7-2 league mark.Horn (6-0, Jr., Hydro), who entered the game averaging just over 11 points a game, was nearly unstoppable bettering the season scoring mark set last week by Andrea Oldham against Southeastern Oklahoma State with 28. Horn was seven-of-16 from the field and made 15-of-her-18 free throw attempts.
SWOSU finished as a team making 23-of-27 (85%) from the free throw line which helped offset a sluggish shooting night from the field as the Bulldogs made just 20-of-58 (34.5%).
Both teams took turns with the lead early before SWOSU ended the first half on a 11-1 tear to take a 29-20 lead into the break.
SWOSU kept its cushion near double figures through much of the second half before finally pulling away. Horn buried a short jumper to put SWOSU comfortably ahead 52-35 with 6:59 to play. The Bulldogs increased their advantage to 20 points later before the coaches allowed the reserves to play out the final few minutes.
SWOSU will next play at home Saturday against Northeastern State. The Lady Reds are in second place in the LSC North, trailing SWOSU by just one game. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on KWEY 95.5 FM or via the web by clicking on the “Listen Live” link on the school’s athletic homepage at www.swosu.edu/athletics.
