Horn Wins LSC Weekly Honor

February 22, 2006

Richardson, TX - Southwestern Oklahoma State continued its grip on the Lone Star Conference’s player-of-the-week award as women’s basketball star Kayla Horn was named the North Division’s top player for the week ending Feb. 19.

Horn’s award marked the third consecutive week that a Bulldog player has won the women’s award. She follows teammate Julie Dawson (Feb. 5) and Andrea Oldham (Feb. 12) as winners of the weekly award.

Horn (6-0, Jr., C, Hydro) averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead SWOSU to wins over Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State. She made 14-of-28 field goals (50 percent) and 16 of 19 free throws (84 percent) in posting her fifth and sixth double-doubles of the year. She had a career-high 29 points with 10 boards in the win over UCO.

Horn is currently the third-leading scorer on the Bulldogs, averaging 12.1 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 7.7 rebounds per game.

SWOSU (15-11, 8-3) has already clinched a share of the LSC North title, something it has accomplished only one other time during the 1997-98 season. The Bulldogs could win the division crown outright and secure the North top seed in the LSC Postseason Tournament with a victory Saturday over visiting Texas A&M-Commerce. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
