Women Sign Eight Basketballers
June 8, 2006
WEATHERFORD – A total of eight new student-athletes have signed letters of intent to play women’s basketball at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, head coach Shelly Pond announced Thursday. SWOSU, 16-12 last season, graduated two senior starters of last year’s Lone Star Conference North Division Championship team.Signing with the Bulldogs for next season are forwards Jeri Gilmore and Kelsie Gee, guards Kalie Radlicff, Kelli Krows, Ashlea Hoffman and Haley Shelton and post players Lucy Ramon and Jenna Sprague.
Pond, who is set to begin her seventh year at SWOSU, said the class is an ideal complement for what she has returning and should help fill some of the most pressing needs for 2006-07.
“We have a great combination of size and proven perimeter shooters,” Pond said. “More importantly, it will give us the flexibility to do a number of different things on the court. We should be an even better club.”
Gilmore and Radcliff each have collegiate experience in their recent past while Ramon was a highly decorated high school player from nearby Mustang. Gilmore, a 5-11 forward, has played at both Oral Roberts University and Eastern Oklahoma State. She was an honorable mention all-stater at Moore High School where she averaged 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
Radcliff, a 5-6 guard, was a part-time starter on Seward County Community College’s nationally ranked team. She averaged 4.5 points and 1.8 rebounds. The Forgan native played on teams that had a combined record of 70-10 in her two seasons with the Saints.
Ramon, a 6-0 post, was the top player for Mustang High School where she averaged more than 16 points a game and sparked the Broncos to comeback wins in the semis and finals for the school's first title since 1989. She scored 21 in the 6A championship game and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
