Women Stumble at ENMU, 79-50

December 1, 2006

PORTALES, N.M. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University had a difficult time getting into its offensive rhythm as the Bulldogs shooting struggles continued in a 79-50 loss to Eastern New Mexico in women’s basketball.

SWOSU made only 30% (19-of-62) of its shots from the field and missed eight of nine three-point attempts. The Bulldogs record is now 2-4 on the year. ENMU (4-1) had much better shooting luck connecting on 53% (25-of-47) including a sizzling 56% (9-of-16) from three-point distance.

Senior center Andrea Oldham had 17 points to lead the Bulldogs in scoring. She played just 17 minutes in the game, but her effectiveness was limited by foul trouble much of the night.

Grace Anne Jones was the other double figure scorer for SWOSU with 11 points.

SWOSU stayed close early and were within six points when Trenice Hines made a free throw with 7:13 to play in the half to cut ENMU’s lead to 22-16. The Lady Zias then scored the next 10 points and took a commanding 36-20 advantage in the locker room.

The second half was not much better for the Bulldogs who eventually found themselves behind by 39 points at 73-34 with 7:33 to play. SWOSU scored the games final eight points on baskets by Hines, Oldham, Jerri Gilmore to bring the final margin under 30 at 29 points.

SWOSU will next play Saturday night at fifth-ranked West Texas A&M University and the reigning Lone Star Conference Player-of-the-Year, Emily Brister.
