Women Lose 61-58 to ATU

WEATHERFORD –Southwestern Oklahoma State University, buzzer-beater winners in its last game, could not find the same good fortune this time losing 61-58 to visiting Arkansas Tech University Wednesday in Weatherford.
ATU’s Ashley Grappe drove the length of the floor and scored while being fouled on a layup with just two seconds to play. Grappe’s game clincher came after ATU had been held scoreless for five minutes allowing the Bulldogs back into the game.
SWOSU, who now falls to 3-7 on the year, had a chance to take the lead late with 11 seconds to play but Dru Tomaszewski misfired on two free throws with the game locked at 58-58.
SWOSU was down by as many as eight points before coming back in the final minutes. Jeri Gilmore knocked down a three-pointer and Andrea Oldham and Tomaszewski each made baskets inside that drew the Bulldogs to within striking distance.
Grace Anne Jones led SWOSU with 12 points. She was the only player who reached double figures for the Bulldogs in scoring.

The Bulldogs picked up their offensive production in the second half making 54% of their shots. SWOSU made just 33% in the first half and ended the game making 24-of-56 attempts for 43%. The deciding factor came from the free throw line where SWOSU netted just eight-of-18 attempts for 44%.
ATU, which improves to 4-4 was led by Christy Mahan with 12 points. The Golden Suns made 70% of their free throw attempts and outscored SWOSU 30-6 from behind the three-point stripe.
The Bulldogs will next be in action Saturday, Dec. 30 against Tarleton State University. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
