WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s best effort of the year was enough to subdue visiting Tarleton State University for a 57-54 victory in women’s basketball action Saturday in Weatherford.

Andrea Oldham scored 13 points and Jessica Bailey hit a pair of clutch baskets in the final minute as the Bulldogs secured their fourth victory in 11 games. Bailey’s heroics started when she burried a three-pointer with 1:05 to play to put the Bulldogs ahead 55-51.

Tarleton State, which fell to 6-2 on the year, did not go away quietly. The TexAnns made it interesting as Katie Crawford knocked down a three-pointer of her own to close SWOSU’s lead to 55-54 with 31 seconds to play. Crawford led TSU with 15 points.

Again, it was Bailey who ansered when she got loose underneath the basket and scored a layup with eight seconds to play putting SWOSU ahead by three. TSU had one last chance to send the game into overtime, but Crawford misfired on a three-point attempt at the buzzer and SWOSU celebrated its first victory over a Lone Star Conference foe this year.

SWOSU ended the game making 19 of 43 shots for 44%. The Bulldogs could have made things easier for themselves had they been better at the free throw line where they made 15 and missed 11 shots in 26 attempts.

The Bulldogs forced Tarleton into 20 turnovers and limited the TexAnns to just 16-of-46 (35%) from the field. Tarleton made just three-of-15 (20%) attempts from three-point distance.

SWOSU’s next game is Thursday, Jan. 4 at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Bulldogs will next be at home Thursday, Jan. 11 against Abilene Christian University.
