January 20, 2007

DURANT—Southwestern Oklahoma State University stayed step-for-step with the top team in the Lone Star Conference North Division for much of the game before wilting in the final minutes losing 63-51 to Southeastern Oklahoma State Saturday in Durant.

The Bulldogs and Savage Storm traded leads five different times and were tied eight other times in a seesaw battle for the game’s first 30 minutes. The loss dropped SWOSU to 6-10 and 0-2 in the LSC North while SOSU improved to 12-4 and 2-0.

SWOSU was led by Andrea Oldham with 12 points while teammate Jessica Bailey was next with 11.

The Bulldogs got within two points at 43-41 when Trenice Hines scored on a layup with 9:37 to play. The Savage Storm then went on a 10-0 run in the next four minutes and put the game away when Lara Loy drilled a three-pointer to put SOSU comfortably ahead at 53-41 with 5:29 to play.

Neither team shot well as SWOSU connected on just 18-of-53 (34%) while SOSU was fractionally better at 18-of-52 (35%). The Bulldogs won the rebound battle 45-35 but were hurt by making just 13-of-27 (48%) from the free throw line.

SWOSU will next be in action Wednesday, Jan. 24 when they travel to Edmond to face the University of Central Oklahoma. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
