Women Lose Against ECU, 73-61

ADA – Southwestern Oklahoma State University put together a gritty effort but still fell short losing to East Central University 73-61 in a women’s basketball game Wednesday in Ada.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 8-13 overall and 2-5 in the Lone Star Conference’s North Division. ECU, which won the earlier meeting between the two schools in Weatherford, improved to 11-10 and 4-3 overall.
The Bulldogs played even with the Tigers after a slow start in which they were behind 18-6. SWOSU managed to tie the score at 30-30 at the halftime break. The Bulldogs led for much of the early moments of the second half and were last ahead 36-35 with 15 minutes to play. ECU then went on an 11-4 run of its own to take control of the game and were ahead 46-40 with just over 10 minutes remaining.
The Tigers upped their lead to double figures taking a 53-41 lead. The final minutes played out relatively uneventful as the Bulldogs could never get within five points.
SWOSU was led in scoring and rebounding by Dru Tomaszewski. The senior forward had 16 points and 11 rebounds, tops in both categories for the Bulldogs. Jessica Bailey added 11 points and teammate Jenna Sprague added 10 to round out the double figure scoring for SWOSU.
ECU was led by Jastin Flenory with 19 points.
The Bulldogs make 20-of-58 shots from the field for 35% while ECU connected on 26-of-46 shots for 55%.
SWOSU will next play Saturday at home against Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. in Weatherford.
