Women Fall in Narrow Loss, 65-64

WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State University could not protect is game-long lead and saw Southeastern Oklahoma State University take control in the final moments and emerge with a 65-64 win in women’s basketball action Saturday in Weatherford.

SWOSU led for 37 of the game’s 40 minutes before the Savage Storm jumped ahead for good when Lora Loy knocked down a three-pointer to give SOSU a 62-60 lead with 3:07 to play. The Bulldogs tied the game at 62 when Dru Tomaszewski connected on a short jumper. SOSU quickly answered with a three-pointer by Ashley Tucker to go ahead 65-52 with 1:44 to play.

The Bulldogs had one final chance to win but Tomaszewksi’s three-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the rim and Southeastern celebrated the hard-fought victory. The loss dropped SWOSU’s record to 8-14 and 2-6 in the Lone Star Conference’s North Division. SOSU improved to 16-6 and 6-2 in the division.

Andrea Oldham had 15 points to lead SWOSU while Tomaszewski was next with 14 points. The two played a key factor in the game early on as SWOSU played in front most of the way.

The Bulldogs led 30-26 at the half and extended their margin to 43-33 when Kelsey Gee scored with 13:28 to play. SOSU slowly chipped away and finally had the game tied at 57-57 after Tucker hit a pair of free throws with 4:50 to play.

SWOSU shot the ball well and finished the game making 26-of-53 attempts for 49%. SOSU made just 24-of-60 shots for 40%. The big advantage came at the three-point line were the Savage Storm outscored the Bulldogs 27-9.

The Bulldogs will next play Wednesday at home against the University of Central Oklahoma. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
