SWOSU to Host Rival UCO

February 13, 2007

WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State University will get its latest and best chance of improving its possibilities of post-season play when the Bulldogs host long-time rival Central Oklahoma in a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader beginning Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Weatherford.

For the SWOSU men (15-7, 3-5 in the LSC North) the game is of critical importance to staying in the race for one of four North division berths in the conference tournament. Currently, the Bulldogs are in a two-way tie with Cameron University for the fourth and final spot. Cameron also plays at home Wednesday against last-placed Northeastern State.

UCO is 16-6 and 6-2 in league play.

SWOSU and UCO have already met once before this year with the Bronchos taking a 83-77 decision in Edmond on Jan. 24. All-star candidate Anthony Brown had 22 points while his high-scoring teammate Sam Belt was next with 17 points.

ldogs will hope to regain some of their high-scoring magic as one of the most exciting teams in the region. SWOSU is averaging nearly 90 points a game and is the first conference school in more than six years to score more than 100 points in six or times in a single game.

SWOSU forward Nate Perry has been the Bulldogs primary leader on the offensive end scoring in double figures each of the last five games. He is averaging nearly 15 points a game and pulling down almost eight rebounds during that span.

For the SWOSU women (8-14, 2-6), the Bulldogs hopes to complete the season sweep of the Bronchos after besting UCO, 73-67, in Edmond earlier. In that game Grace Anne Jones and Andrea Oldham each scored a season-high 22 points to lead the Bulldogs.

UCO has won four straight and have improved its record to 11-11 overall and 5-3 in league play.

SWOSU Dru Tomaszewski has been one of the bright spots lately for the Bulldogs. The senior forward is averaging 15 points and nine rebounds in her last two games. She has improved both her career averages in scoring, rebounding and shooting accuracy in her fourth and final season with SWOSU.
