Women Beaten by UCO, 65-50

WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State University started hot, cooled later then went ice cold down the stretch losing 65-50 to visiting University of Central Oklahoma in a women’s basketball game Wednesday in Weatherford.
The Bulldogs scored the game’s first 15 points and appeared on the verge of making it a runaway before the Bronchos regrouped and began to claw their way back. SWOSU led 25-10 at the midpoint of the first half only to see UCO trim the margin to six points as the halftime break at 33-27.
UCO took the lead for good when Lizzei Brenner scored to put the Bronchos ahead 45-43 with 11:42 to play. After a fast start, SWOSU scored only seven points in the last 13 minutes of play finishing with 17 points for the entire half.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 8-15 overall and 2-7 in the Lone Star Conference North Division. UCO improves to 12-11 and 6-3 in league play.
Andrea Oldham had 10 points to lead SWOSU. No other Bulldog player managed double figures on the night.

UCO’s Mallory Markus scored 20 points, including hitting a number of three-pointers midway through the second half when the Bronchos began to pull away. Brenner was next with 16 points.
SWOSU shooting was a story of two halves. The Bulldogs made 14-of-23 shots in the first half for a sizzling 61%. The second half was a different story as the Bulldogs made just six-of-31 attempts for 19%. SWOSU was three-of-22 from three-point distance for 14%.
UCO made 22-of-56 attempts from the field for 39% but made seven more three-pointers and turned the ball over seven fewer times.
SWOSU will next play Saturday at Northeastern State University. The Bulldogs will play their final home game of the season Monday against Cameron University. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Weatherford.
