WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State put away its opponent early and this time kept its foot mashed solidly on the throttle with a convincing 63-55 victory over last-place Cameron University Monday in Weatherford.
Seniors Andrea Oldham and Dru Tomaszewski each had solid efforts in their final home game for the Bulldogs. Oldham scored 15 points while Tomaszewksi added 10 points and nine rebounds.
The win was SWOSU’s first in seven games and improved the Bulldogs to 9-16 overall and 3-8 in the Lone Star Conference North Division. Cameron, which beat the Bulldogs in an earlier meeting this year, dropped to 4-21 and 2-9 in division play.
Like a week ago against Central Oklahoma, SWOSU jumped out to a sizeable early lead and had the Aggies down 16-0 in the game’s first nine minutes. Cameron missed their first 18 shots from the field and did not score until nine minutes had been played.

Unlike the UCO game in which SWOSU eventually lost, the Bulldogs kept the Aggies scrambling from behind the entire game. SWOSU kept their double-digit advantage at the break leading 38-24. Cameron got as close as eight points in the second half but that was short lived. The Bulldogs scored the next seven and were up 55-40 with 5:21 to play when Jessica Bailey scored on a layup to put the game out of reach.
The Bulldogs made just 22-of-62 (35%) of their shots but were still better than their opponent which made just 21-of-65 (32%). Cameron made nine-of-34 attempts in the first half for just 27%. The Bulldogs won the battle of the rebounds by a 47-43 margin. Both teams turned the ball over 17 times.
SWOSU will close its season Saturday against Texas A&M-Commerce on the road. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
