Women Sign Five Players
May 3, 2007
Southwestern Oklahoma State University women's basketball coach Shelly Pond has announced the signing of five new players to National Letters of Intent. All five are eligible immediately and expected to contribute right away, according to Pond.
The list includes four junior college transfers and one high school all-stater. They are as follows: Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa teammates Allie Burdan and Kadee Carter, NOC-Enid teammates Sheri Yost and Lauren Reel along with Arapaho High School’s Madison Cabaniss.
“Each player comes from a strong program and has been a winner throughout their basketball careers,” Pond said. “They bring a lot of positive things for us both on and off the basketball court. We’re excited they are now Bulldogs.”
Carter, a 5-6 guard from Choctaw, and Burdan, a 5-7 guard from Claremore-Sequoyah, led the Lady Mavs to the Oklahoma Junior College Regional Finals this year. Carter led the team in assists as both a freshman and a sophomore. Her freshman year she led the team in scoring as well as three-pointers made. She was named to the NJCAA Pre-Season All-American Team and was twice named to the All-Region II Team and All Bi-State West Conference Team.
Burdan led the Mavs in steals the last two seasons and consistently drew the opponent's toughest offensive player, regardless of position. She was the team's leading rebounder both seasons despite playing much of the time at guard. Her freshman season, she was named to the All Bi-State West Conference Team.
Yost, a 6-0 forward from Lomega, and Reel, a 5-8 guard from Mustang, were a part of the NOC-Enid team that finished the year 23-8 and advanced to the semifinals in the region. Reel averaged 9.6 points per game for the Jets and made better than 42% of her shots from three-point distance.
Cabaniss averaged just over 17 points per game for Arapaho and led her team to the state tournament as a junior.
