Fan Jam Set for Oct. 30
October 22, 2007
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Fan Jam, the wild and rowdy celebration that marks the beginning of Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s basketball season, will take place Tuesday, Oct. 30 beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free and seating will be made available at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Free posters, hot dogs, soda pop and the always popular “Fan Jam T-shirts” will be among the dozens of prizes and items that will be given away to the students, faculty, staff and community expected to squeeze into the gymnasium.
The popular event, now in its ninth year, showcases the SWOSU men’s and women’s basketball teams in a variety of events and contests. Some of which will include a three-point shooting exhibition and a dunk contest with university faculty and administrators serving as honorary judges.
Special performances will also be given by the SWOSU Cheerleading and Pom Pon squads. In addition, the SWOSU “Wild Dawg” Pep Band will perform a few selected numbers and the SWOSU Drum Line returns again after wowing last year’s crowd with a lengthy and loud percussion jam.
Also at the event, the SWOSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council will kick off their Holiday Food Drive. The SAAC will have boxes set aside to collect non-perishable food items and canned goods to distribute to families in need during the holiday season.
The event’s finale will be a chance for one lucky student to win a $375 book scholarship if they make a half court shot. The scholarship is sponsored by the SWOSU Alumni Association.
