Women Split Road Games
November 19, 2007
Southwestern Oklahoma State University split its first two women’s basketball games of the 2007-08 season beating Kansas Newman and then later losing to Oklahoma Panhandle State.
The Bulldogs, who are now 1-1 on the year, play at home for the first time this season Friday, Nov. 23 against University of Texas-Permian Basin and Saturday, Nov. 24 against Paul Quinn College. Tipoff for both games is set for 6 p.m. The games are part of the SWOSU Athletic Association Thanksgiving Classic.
In the win against Kansas Newman, Grace Anne Fath and Lucy Ramon each scored 19 points as the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half for an easy 70-53 victory. SWOSU led 34-31 at halftime and used a 59% shooting effort in the second half to outscore the Jets by a 14-point margin.
Against Panhandle, SWOSU struggled from the field making just 17-of-60 shots for a 28.3% shooting percentage. Still the Bulldogs fought their way back and had the game tied at 46-46 with just under three minutes to play. OPSU then outscored SWOSU 6-2 down the stretch and came up with some key defensive stops to earn the hard-fought victory.
Ramon was the only SWOSU player in double figures with 10 points.
