Women Make Big Comeback

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University fashioned a courageous comeback fighting back from a deep hole only to see it slip away in overtime losing 79-73 to Tarleton State University.
Allie Burdan had 19 points for SWOSU including a clutch three-pointer at the end of regulation that forced the overtime tied at 62. Burdan’s buzzer beater completed a 24-7 run in which the Bulldogs erased what had been a 17-point lead by the TexAnns in the game’s final 11 minutes.
Burdan scored the overtime’s first points that gave SWOSU its only lead of the game at 64-62. The Bulldogs turned the ball over on two consecutive possessions and were whistled for fouls sending Tarleton to the free throw line. TSU made six straight free throws and pulled back in front for good at 68-64 with 2:45 to play.
Lucy Ramon added 18 points for the Bulldogs and Grace Anne Fath had 13 for SWOSU which dropped to 3-3 following the loss.
TSU, which remained unbeaten at 4-0, was led by Brittnie Haley with 15 points.
SWOSU made their second-half run thanks to some red-hot shooting. The Bulldogs made 61% of their shots in the second half after making just 31% the first half. SWOSU made eight of their nine three pointers in the second half.
The Bulldogs will next play Thursday as they host Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
