Women Soar Past TAMUK

WEATHERFORD, Okla.– Southwestern Oklahoma State University had one of its best shooting efforts of the season and used it with great effectiveness to beat visiting Texas A&M-Kingsville by a 78-63 score in a women’s basketball game Thursday in Weatherford.

The win put the Bulldogs back over .500 with an overall record of 4-3 while the Javelinas dropped to 3-5. SWOSU will next play Saturday against Texas Women’s University. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.

Kadee Carter had 17 points, including five three pointers to lead the Bulldogs in scoring. SWOSU’s 78-point total was its highest of the year and came as a result of 44% shooting from the field.

SWOSU drilled made 12-of-24 three-pointers and out rebounded the Javelinas by a 40-28 margin. SWOSU forced TAMUK into 21 turnovers while only committing 14 of their own.

Tobey Beer, playing in her first game for SWOSU, was next in the scoring column with 14 points. She made her first four shots from three-point distance before missing on her fifth and last attempt.

added 11 points and Lucy Ramon scored 10 to complete the double figure scorers for SWOSU.

The Bulldogs outscored TAMUK 15-4 to start the second half and had a 17-point lead at 60-43 when Trenice Hines scored with 13:43 to play.

TAMUK, which was led in scoring by Lana Toki with 17 points, never got closer than nine points and that was only for a brief time.
