December 15, 2007

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University put away another opponent with relative ease winning its third straight game with a 61-46 victory over visiting Newman University Saturday in Weatherford.

Lucy Ramon scored 17 points and Tobey Beer added 12 for the Bulldogs who improved to 6-3 with the win. Newman, which lost for the sixth time in seven games, was led by Rainey Nickel with 11 points.

SWOSU will conclude its first semester of play Thursday, Dec. 20 at home against Incarnate Word. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs did as they wanted against the Jets using a 12-2 run at the end of the first half to take a 36-20 lead into the locker room. SWOSU kept that margin for much of the second half as Newman got within nine on a couple of occasions but never closer.

SWOSU had a crisp first half making 52% of its shots on 14-of-27 shooting. The second half was not as sharp as SWOSU connected on just seven-of-27 shots for 26%. Overall, the Bulldogs finished shooting 39% on 21-of-54 attempts.

The teams tied on the rebound side with each team grabbing 36. Jenna Sprague had eight to lead SWOSU in that category.
