Women Bounced by ACU

ABILENE, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University pushed, shoved and battled Abilene Christian for the better part of 40 minutes but could not come away with a victory, losing 73-60 in a women’s basketball game.
The loss was SWOSU’s first in five games and dropped the Bulldogs overall record to 7-4 on the year. ACU improved to 4-6 after the win.
SWOSU found the going tough early when leading scorer, Lucy Ramon, was whistled for two quick fouls and sent to the bench for the final 18 minutes of the first half. Even without Ramon, SWOSU stayed close and trailed 23-21 when Jessica Giblet scored on a short jumper with 6:57 to play in the first half.
ACU went on an 8-0 run to close the half and took a 41-32 lead into the locker room.
Ramon came back in the second half and quickly asserted herself. She finished with 23 points, 21 of which came in the game’s final 20 minutes.
Her three-point basket and two free throw’s by Grace Anne Fath brought the Bulldogs to within seven points at 51-44 with 11:15 remaining. SWOSU would get no closer as ACU quickly pushed its lead back to double figures and had it to as many as 17 on two occasions.
ACU was led by Alex Guiton with 24 points. The Wildcats were aided by a wide discrepancy at the free throw line making 23-of-29 attempts while SWOSU made just 10-of-17 from the stripe.
The Bulldogs ended the game shooting 23-of-55 for 42% while ACU netted 24-of-51 attempts for 47%.
SWOSU will continue its road play against Lone Star Conference South Division teams when it meets Angelo State Saturday in San Angelo, Texas. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
