Ramon Scores 31 in Win

February 2, 2008

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Freshman Lucy Ramon showed why many consider her the best freshmen basketball player in the Lone Star Conference, pouring in 31 points to lead Southwestern Oklahoma State University to an easy 75-53 victory over visiting Cameron University.

Ramon, who had 18 points in the first half, finished by making 11-of-15 shots from the field and eight-of-nine from the free-throw line. The 31 points bettered her previous career-high of 24 points set against West Texas A&M.

The win improved the Bulldogs to 12-8 and 3-2 in the LSC North Division while Cameron fell to 3-17 and 0-5 in division play.

SWOSU’s Jenna Sprauge had 13 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the year and Grace Anne Fath kept her double-figure scoring streak going with 10 points. She now has scored 10 or more points in eight straight games.

SWOSU broke open a tie ballgame late in the first half with a 12-2 run. Sprague completed the surge with an inside move and basket to put the Bulldogs ahead 37-27 with 2:18 to play before half. SWOSU took a 40-31 lead at the break.

The Bulldogs put the game out of reach with a 10-0 run early in the second half and found themselves in front 57-41 when Jessica Giblet dropped in a rainbow three pointer with 9:51 to play.

SWOSU’s lead quickly grew to 20 points before eventually reaching as many as 25 late in the game.

The Bulldogs made 51% of their shots on 27-of-52 attempts. Cameron connected on just 34% on 17-of-50 attempts. SWOSU more than doubled the Aggies in the rebounding category taking 43 boards to Cameron’s 21.

SWOSU will next play Wednesday, Feb. 6 at longtime rival Central Oklahoma. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in Edmond.
