Women Drop Colorado Pair
November 29, 2008
LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s trip to beautiful Colorado yielded some not so pretty results as the Bulldogs lost games to Colorado College and Western State in women’s basketball action this weekend. The losses left SWOSU at 2-3 on the season and give them precious little time to recover before starting Lone Star Conference play Thursday at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
SWOSU lost to the host team, Colorado College, on Friday by a score of 75-63 despite a pair of 16-point efforts by both Jennifer DeGarmo and Lucy Ramon.
The Bulldogs worked to erase a 13-point second half deficit and managed to draw within one point at 58-57 when Tobey Beer canned a three-pointer with 3:46 to play. CC then scored the next eight points and took a 66-67 lead after a pair of free throws by Audrey Finley to put the game out of reach.
SWOSU again hurt itself from the free throw line making just eight-of-21 charity tosses for 37%. CC countered by sizzling at the stripe making 25-of-30 shots for 83%.
The Bulldogs managed to stay in the game thanks in part to their three-point shooting efficiency. SWOSU made 11 treys to just six by Colorado College. DeGarmo and Beer each had four from long-distance to lead the way.
The Bulldogs played statically better against Western State in an 82-75 loss. Both teams shot well and treated those in attendance to a spirited and well-played game. The game was tied 11 different times and the lead changed hands an amazing 15 times throughout the contest.
Allie Burdan had 15 points while DeGarmo added 14 to lead the Bulldogs offensively. Ramon added 13 and Jenna Sprague scored 10 to complete the double-figure scorers for SWOSU.
SWOSU made 49% of its shots while Western State was an even 50%. The Bulldogs did better at the free throw line making 13-of-23 shots for 56% but still missed more than they would like. Western State was 13-of-18 for 72% from the stripe.
The Bulldogs had the game tied at 67-67 when Ramon scored inside with 3:29 to play. WSC then scored the next seven straight and found themselves ahead 74-67 with 2:02 to play on a three-pointer by Brooke Pendergraft.
SWOSU got within three when Burdan scored on a layup to make it 76-73 with 55 seconds to play. WSC answered by making six consecutive free throws in the games final 37 seconds to secure the win.
