Women Lose at A&M-Kingsville

December 4, 2008

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University strung together an impressive late-game charge but did not have enough in the end falling 68-63 to Texas A&M-Kingsville in a women’s basketball game Thursday.

SWOSU (2-4) used a 20-6 run over a six-minute stretch in the second half to climb back into the ballgame. The Bulldogs found themselves down by as many as 17 points at one time. Lucy Ramon’s basket with 4:44 to play cut the Javelinas lead to 62-58 and put the Bulldogs in great position.

However, SWOSU went scoreless over the next four-plus minutes and watched as the Javelinas grew their lead back to eight points. Dyana Bullinger made two free throws to put TAMUK up 66-58 with 42 seconds to play.

A pair of free throws by Madison Cabiness and a three-pointer by Jennifer DeGarmo tightened the game later but the Javalinas made good on their free throws in the last seconds to keep in front at the game’s final horn.

DeGarmo led SWOSU in scoring with 20 points while Ramon added 14. Jennifer Sprague was the only other double-figure scorer for the Bulldogs with 10.

TAMUK (3-3) was led by Angela Franklin with 20 points.

SWOSU will next play Saturday at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio before returning home Saturday, Dec. 13 to host Angelo State University.
