WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University showed just how good this edition of the women’s basketball team can be this year putting on a offensive and defensive clinic in a 78-54 beating of visiting Angelo State Saturday.

Jennifer DeGarmo and Shanessa Smith each scored 16 points while Lucy Ramon added 15 as the Bulldogs broke what had been a four-game losing streak in impressive fashion. The win lifted SWOSU to 3-5 on the year. ASU winners of five straight fell to 5-5. The Rambelles were led in scoring by Lindsey Leatherman with 23 points.

SWOSU had a 10-point cushion after just six minutes of play when DeGarmo sunk a three-pointer to put the Bulldogs in front 14-4. The margin grew to 23 points when DeGarmo again canned another three-pointer to put SWOSU in control at 37-14 with 3:01 to play before half. The Bulldogs took a 42-21 lead into the locker room.

In the second half Angelo State got the margin to within 13 points but it was quickly erased. SWOSU scored nine straight points and were ahead by 22 when Smith scored to make it 58-36 with 11:22 to play.

The Bulldogs moved the ball crisply on offense finishing with 23 assists on 33 baskets. Allie Burdan had a season high 12 assists to lead the Bulldogs in that category.

SWOSU outrebounded the Rambelles 42-33 with Jenna Sprague leading both teams with eight.

SWOSU will next play Friday against Abilene Christian at home. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
