Women Beaten by Northeastern

January 14, 2009

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University stumbled out of the starting gate and could not gain its footing in time losing 61-44 to Northeastern State University Wednesday in women's basketball game.

The Bulldogs played the RiverHawks even for the majority of the game but it was a critical cold spell that doomed SWOSU's chances from the outset. NSU took control of the game racing to a 19-2 lead in the game's first four minutes. The Bulldogs braced themselves and managed to trade baskets with NSU the remainder of the first half and before finding themselves down 37-18 at the break.

SWOSU kept its steady pace up in the second half and actually outscored the RiverHawks 27-24 but could not manage to significantly cut into NSU's advantage.

Jennifer DeGarmo had 18 points to lead SWOSU in scoring, connecting on four three-pointers. She was followed in scoring by Erin Wright with nine points.

NSU, which improved to 9-5 and 1-0 in Lone Star Conference North Division play, was led in scoring by Alix Perkins with 13 points.

SWOSU made just 24% of its shots connecting on 15-of-62 attempts while NSU made 43% converting 24-of-55 attempts. The Bulldogs out rebounded NSU by a 42-41 margin. DeGarmo had 10 rebounds to lead in that category and recorded her first double-double of the year.

SWOSU, now 4-10 on the year, will play LSC North favorite Central Oklahoma at home Saturday in an important game. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
