WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University picked up a much-needed win and helped its chances for a qualifying berth in the Lone Star Conference post-season tournament with a 67-59 victory over visiting Cameron University in a women’s basketball game Wednesday in Weatherford.

Jennifer DeGarmo had 17 points and Tobey Beer added 13 for the Bulldogs who improved to 5-11 overall and 1-2 in the LSC North Division play. SWOSU will have a chance to even its division record Saturday as they play North newcomer Texas Woman’s in a game at Denton, Texas.

Cameron, which was led by Kristi Taylor with 17 points, fell to 5-11 and 0-3 with the loss. DeGarmo and Beer helped the Bulldogs break open a tight ballgame with a scoring surge to start the second half. The Bulldogs, who were clinging to a lackluster 27-21 lead at the break, caught fire. SWOSU outscored Cameron 10-0 to start the second half and when DeGarmo knocked down a three the lead was 37-21 with 14:58 to play.

Cameron, who finished the game making just 34% of its shots, never could mount much of a threat to the Bulldogs the rest of the way. The Aggies got within seven points at the four minute mark but quickly were turned back thanks to baskets by DeGarmo and Shanessa Smith.

SWOSU ended the game shooting 46% making 19-of-41 attempts. The Bulldogs had large carried a large advantage in both the rebound category (42-33) and free throws made (24-16).

Smith had 11 rebounds and passed the double-figure mark in that category for the third time this season.
