Ingram, Jones Pull Top 10 Finish

PORTALES, N.M. – Southwestern Oklahoma State cross country star Rachel Ingram and new teammate Stefanie Jones both turned in top 10 finishes in the first meet of the season at the Eastern New Mexico Invitational.Ingram finished third in a field of 90 runners with a time of 18:06 for the five kilometer run. She finished behind Rachel Kipsang and Gladys Kipsang, two athletes from Kenya, who run for South Plains Junior College and Texas Tech, respectively
Jones, a former member of SWOSU women’s basketball team, finished sixth in her first collegiate cross country meet with a time of 19:09.
The Bulldogs finished in seventh place overall as a team with 154 points. NAIA power Wayland Baptist won the meet with 72 points followed by Texas Tech in second place with 82 points.
Other times for SWOSU are as follows: Kate Hollenshead finished 31st with a time of 20:44; Emily Haskins was 55th with a time of 22:24, Carly Johnson was 59th with a time of 22:50 and Afton Hoover finished 60th with a time of 23:03.
The Bulldogs, under the direction of first-year coach Josh Musick, will run again Saturday at the East Central University Tiger Chase in Ada. SWOSU is expected to be among the pre-race favorites that will feature runners from Central Oklahoma, Southeastern Oklahoma, Texas A&M-Commerce, Oklahoma Baptist, ECU and others.
