SWOSU Finishes 25th at MMSU Stampede

JOPLIN, MO – Southwestern Oklahoma State had an opportunity to tests itself against some of the top cross country teams in the region competing at the 34-team Missouri Southern Stampede Saturday in Joplin, Mo.The Bulldogs finished 25th for the second consecutive year and were again led by junior Rachel Ingram, who hails from nearby Springfield, Mo. Ingram finished 24th out of a field of 286 runners with a time of 18:34 over the five kilometer course. Her time was just off the 18:12 mark she turned in last year in a 22nd place effort as a sophomore.
Teammate Stefanie Jones was the next SWOSU finisher placing 53rd with a time of 19:13.
The overall team title went to Harding University which had all five of its runners finish in the top 20. Individual honors went to Zimbabwe’s Faithy Kamangila, who runs for Oral Roberts, with a time of 16:53.
SWOSU finished ahead of Lone Star Conference schools East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma. Texas A&M-Commerce finished one spot ahead of SWOSU, 24th. The University of Central Oklahoma was the only other LSC school entered in the event. The Bronchos finished 12th.
Other SWOSU times and places are as follows: Kate Hollenshead in 186th with a time of 21:29, Afton Hoover in 235th with a time of 23:11, Carly Johnson in 238th with a time of 23:15, Emily Haskins in 248th with a time of 23:43 and Sarah Jrab in 265th with a time of 24:43.
The Bulldogs will be off next week before competing in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree Saturday, Sept. 30. A race in which Ingram won the small-college division a year ago.
