Ingram, Jones Nab Top 10 Finish

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University planted two runners in the top 10 at the Lone Star Conference Women’s Cross Country Championships held Saturday at Legends Golf Course in Stephenville, Texas.
SWOSU’s duo of Rachel Ingram and Stefanie Jones were again the top Bulldog runners to cross the finish line. Ingram placed second while Jones finished ninth. Both athletes were awarded all-conference recogntion by virtue of their 10th or better finish.
Ingram, who finised sixth and fourth in her previous LSC meets, had her highest placing yet in the league’s championship. Her time in the 6,000 meter race was 21:51, 13 seconds behind Abilene Christian’s Loice Cheboi’s clocking of 21:38.
Jones ran the course in 22:49. A total of 11 teams competed in the event that features a total of 89 runners.
ACU won its sixth straight title with 45 points and had all five of its runners place 15th or better. Angelo State was next with 80 points followed by Central Oklahoma with 93. SWOSU finished in 11th place with 223 points.
Other SWOSU finishers and their times are as follows: Kate Hollenshead finished 54th with a time of 25:49, Carly Johnson was 78th at 27:35, Emily Haskins was 80th at 28:02, Afton Hoover was 83rd at 28:57 and Sarah Jrab was 88th at 30:53.
Ingram and Jones will again race at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional set for Nov. 4 in Warrensburg, Mo. The top 15 runners from that event earn a berth in the national championships.
