Team Finishes Second at UCO

EDMOND, Okla. -- Southwestern Oklahoma State University put together an impressive performance in its first cross country meet of the season finishing second at the Central Oklahoma Land Run. The five-kilometer race was held Saturday at Mitch Park in Edmond.
The Bulldogs, under the leadership of coach Josh Musick, had three runners make the top 10, including Stefanie Jones who was overall second with a time of 18 minutes and 58 seconds. Rachel Ingram placed third with a time of 19:26 and first-time runner Grace Anne Fath placed eighth with a time of 20:28.
UCO won the team championship with 31 points, thanks in part to all five runners finishing ninth or better. SWOSU was next with 42 points, followed by Oklahoma Christian in third with 47 points, Southeastern Oklahoma State was fourth with 108 points and Texas A&M-Commerce was last with 113.
Oklahoma Christina’s Sylvia Chirchir, a native of Kenya, was the top individual finisher with a time of 18:36. A total of 31 runners competed in the event.
Other SWOSU runners and their finish were Afton Hoover in 14th with a time of 21:57; Emily Haskins in 15th at 22:18; Kate Hollenshead in 16th at 22:25; Erin Williams in 17th at 23:07; and Kara Bachus in 25th at 24:43.
SWOSU will next run at the East Central University Tiger Chase Saturday in Ada.
