Jones Wins ECU Tiger Chase

ADA, Okla. -- Stefanie Jones became the second straight Southwestern Oklahoma State University cross country runner to win the East Central University Tiger Chase beating 26 other participants to the finish line. The five-kilometer race was held Saturday at the Pontotoc Technology Center in Ada.

Jones posted a time of 19:27, which was 21 seconds faster than her teammate and defending champion Rachel Ingram. Ingram finished second with a time of 19:48.

Jones and Ingram were two of three SWOSU runners that finished sixth or better. Grace Anne Fath, Jones’ twin sister, was sixth with a time of 21:06.

As a team, SWOSU finished second in the four-team field with 40 points. Central Oklahoma again was first with 35 points with all five runners finishing 11th or better. East Central was third with 47 points and Southeastern Oklahoma was fourth with 98 points.

Other SWOSU runners and their finish are as follows: Afton Hoover was 14th with a time of 22:42, Kate Hollenshead with 17th with a time of 23:43; Emily Haskins was 20th with a time of 24:05, Erin Williams was 21st with a time of 25:34, and Kara Bachus was 23rd with a time of 26:13.

The team will next run Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.
