Team Finishes 5th at LSC

COMMERCE, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University had its best-ever showing in the Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championship placing three runners in the top 10 and finishing fifth as a team

Stefanie Jones, Rachel Ingram and Grace Anne Fath were among the first wave of runners that competed in the 12-team, 84-participant field. The six-kilometer race was run Saturday, Oct. 20 at Eddie Moore Park in Commerce, Texas.

All three SWOSU runners earned all-conference honors thanks to their top 10 finish. Jones was SWOSU’s top runner in the event placing fourth with a time of 22:45, and earned her second straight all-conference medal.

Ingram, who has finished second, fourth and sixth in previous LSC meets, made it four-for-four on earning all-conference by finishing fifth this year with a time of 23:02.

Fath earned her first-ever all-conference medal in her first attempt placing ninth with a time of 23:42.

ACU won the women’s title for the seventh straight year. The Wildcats had the top finisher in Cheboi Loice who covered the distance in 22:04, 30 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Betty Hernandez of East Central University. ACU’s Mary Mwangi finished third with a time of 22:44.

ACU finished with 53 points and had four of its five runners finish 11th or better. Tarleton State finished second with 84 points despite not having a runner finish better than 10th. West Texas A&M was third with 86 points and Central Oklahoma was fourth with 94 points.

Other SWOSU runners and their finish are as follows: Kate Hollenshead in 44th with a time of 25:48, Afton Hoover in 56th place with a time of 26:26; Emily Haskins in 53rd with a time of 26:32, Kara Bachus was 63rd with a time of 27:24 and Erin Williams was 73rd with a time of 28:46.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional scheduled for Nov. 3 on the campus of Missouri Southern State in Joplin, Mo.
