SWOSU Football Tryout Attracts 60 Participants

Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State coaches sent more than 60 aspiring and perspiring football hopefuls through a series of workouts during a one-day open tryout for the Bulldogs football team Feb. 19.New coach Ryan Held said he was delighted that the first-ever tryout attracted such a large number of participants.
“We were surprised with the quantity and the quality of kids who came out,” Held said. “We had no way of knowing just how many would show up since it hadn’t been done before. I think it’s sends a strong message of what we hope to accomplish here.”
Held was unable to comment on specific players who stood out during the three-hour evaluation but did mention that the punting and kicking hopefuls had been the most impressive.
A handful of the participants were students already enrolled at SWOSU. Some of those are now practicing with the team in an off-season conditioning program.
The Bulldogs will begin spring drills on Tuesday, March 29. The Blue-White Spring Game will be Thursday, April 21.
