SWOSU to Host Open Football Tryout

December 15, 2005

Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State will again swing its doors open for potential football players looking to earn their way to collegiate scholarship money with a one-day, open tryout scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18.

SWOSU football coach Ryan Held said the free tryout is open to any high school senior, junior college athlete or any enrolled student at SWOSU who has interest in playing collegiate football.

Participants are to arrive at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse for orientation and registration beginning at 11 a.m. in Room 101. All participants are to bring proper workout attire, including field cleats.

Each athlete will be evaluated by members of the SWOSU football coaching staff. The participants will be tested in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, agility drills and weight lifting. After testing, players will be allowed to work at specific positions where they will be further evaluated for their football-playing potential.

Each person will be given a written evaluation and a one game ticket to the Northeastern State basketball game on campus later that afternoon.

“We had a tremendous response last year with over 60 people,” Held said. “A number of those kids made our team and became a part of our football family. I’m expecting even more from this year’s group.”

For more information persons should contact the SWOSU football office at 580-774-7190.
