Football Tryouts Attract 43

February 22, 2006

Weatherford, OK - Dozens of hopeful football prospects had an opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of the Southwestern Oklahoma State coaching staff during the Bulldog’s open tryout Saturday.

Second-year coach Ryan Held said 43 players attended the one-day event despite snow and icy conditions in the area.

“I’m pleased that we had such a good turnout,” Held said. “We could have had close to a 100 if the weather would have cooperated.”

The players were tested indoors in several drills such as the 40-yard dash, pro agility, broad jump and vertical leap. In addition, each player’s strength was determined by a number of weight-lifting exercises in the SWOSU Fitness Center.

“We had a number of guys who tested really well, and they should get strong consideration for joining our program next season,” Held said.

Held and his staff will spend the next week reviewing the physical test scores and make decisions and determine if possible scholarship opportunities exist for some of the top prospects.
