The Bulldogs will spend considerable time practicing, lifting weights and attending team meetings until classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 23. The Bulldogs open the season Saturday, Sept. 2 at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Their first home game set for Saturday, Sept. 9 against Midwestern State.

Held said a total of 106 players began workouts with the squad with about a dozen more walk-ons that expected to join the program once school begins.

Primarily practices are conducted each morning with the afternoons reserved for lifting weights and conditioning. The team will be in position meetings in the evening.

The team is expected to practice in full pads beginning Wednesday and have a light scrimmage Friday afternoon.
