Franklin Wins Second LSC Honor
October 23, 2006
RICHARDSON, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University linebacker Greg Franklin has been recognized by the Lone Star Conference as the North Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week.
Franklin, a 6-0, 230 pound sophomore from Midwest City’s Carl Albert High School, was the Bulldogs top defender with 10 tackles in a 32-6 victory over rival Northeastern State University. Franklin led a defensive unit that that held the Redmen to just 80 yards of total offense and two yards on the ground. It was the best defensive effort statistically of any LSC school this year and the lowest since Abilene Christian held Texas A&M-Commerce to 49 yards in a 2003 game.
The award is Franklin’s second of the year and his third of his career. He earlier this season won the award for his efforts in the Bulldog’s 23-17 victory in the season-opening upset of Texas A&M-Kingsville. He had 11 tackles in that game.
Franklin leads the team in tackles this season with 51 through eight games. SWOSU is currently ranked as the fifth best defensive team in the LSC allowing 304.4 yards per game. The Bulldogs have not allowed a running back to gain over 100 yards against them this season; and only one – Raymorris Miller of Texas A&M-Kingsville, has netted more than 70 yards.
