SWOSU Football Team to Host Open Tryout
January 24, 2007
WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State University will open its doors for potential football players looking to earn collegiate scholarship money with a one-day, open tryout scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17.
SWOSU football coach Ryan Held said the free tryout is open to any high school senior, junior college athlete or any enrolled student at SWOSU who has interest in playing collegiate football.
Participants are to arrive at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse for orientation and registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Room 101. All participants are to bring proper workout attire, including field cleats, gym shoes, primary insurance card and highlight video (if available).
Also, high school seniors should bring a copy of their transcript and a copy of their ACT/SAT scores if taken. All college-level participants need to bring a copy of their unofficial transcript.
Each athlete will be evaluated by members of the SWOSU football coaching staff. The participants will be tested in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, agility drills and weight lifting. After testing, players will be allowed to work at specific positions where they will be further evaluated for their football-playing potential.
“We had a tremendous response over the last two years doing this,” Held said. “A number of the tryout kids made our team and have become part of our football family. I’m expecting even more from this year’s group.”
