Waver, Morgan Win LSC Honors
August 27, 2007
RICHARDSON, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University won two of the three honors awarded by the Lone Star Conference for North Division Football Players-of-the-Week. Junior return specialist Patrick Weaver won the special team ward while senior free safety Andre Morgan was chosen as the top defensive player. Both players were instrumental in SWOSU’s 33-7 victory over former rival Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
Weaver, a graduate of Bishop McGuiness High School, showed why he is considered one of the top return men in the conference bringing back a punt 87 yards for a score against the Rangers. It is the third time in two seasons that he has brought back either a kickoff or a punt for a touchdown. He also ended the game leading SWOSU in rushing with 71 yards on six carries.
Morgan, a graduate of Garland South High School and a transfer from Troy State, made quite an impact in his first game as a Bulldog. He had a quarterback sack that resulted in a safety, recovered a fumble and finished with seven tackles. He was part of a defense that limited NWOSU to just 147 yards of total offense.
The Bulldogs will next play Saturday at home against 24-time Lone Star Conference champion Texas A&M-Kingsville. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Milam Stadium.
