Lenahan Takes Punting Lead
October 1, 2007
Southwestern Oklahoma State University punter Corey Lenahan continues to make his case for post-season awards as he widened the gap between him and the second-place punter in the Lone Star Conference.
Lenahan is averaging 42.9 yards on 29 punts this season. In his last game against Tarleton, the junior from La Mirada, Calif., punted six times for an average of 44.4 yards a punt, including having his longest kick, a 60-yarder against the Texans.
“Corey has been a real positive for us this season,” SWOSU coach Ryan Held said. “He has made a difference and kept field position titled in our favor most of the time.”
Lenahan leads NSU’s Joe Kok by nearly a full yard through the first six games of the season.
He is not far from challenging the school record of 45.6 yards a punt set by school hall-of-famer and former NFL punter Carl Birdsong in 1979.
