Day Wins Player-of-the-Week

October 22, 2007

Southwestern Oklahoma State University quarterback Steve Day was recognized by the Lone Star Conference as the North Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week for leading the Bulldogs to a 31-24 victory over Northeastern State University Saturday in Tahlequah.

Day, a graduate of Edmond Santa Fe High School, completed 17-of-28 passes for 316 yards and had touchdown tosses of 14, 31 and 54 yards.

Day has taken over full-time at quarterback after splitting duties with senior Jimmy Sangster through the first seven games this season. So far this season, Day has thrown for 852 yards and eight touchdown passes for the Bulldogs who are 4-4 with three games remaining.

Day’s 316 yards was the most a SWOSU quarterback has thrown for since he, himself, threw for 317 yards against Northeastern as a freshman in 2005.

Day and the rest of his Bulldog teammates play an important conference game Saturday against the University of Central Oklahoma. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Edmond.
