November 5, 2007
RICHARDSON, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University had two players recognized by the Lone Star Conference for their performance in the Bulldogs’ 24-18 victory over East Central University Saturday. Linebacker Ruzell McCoy was chosen as the LSC North Defensive Player-of-the-Week while punter Corey Lenahan was the Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.
McCoy, a junior from Frederick, had his second straight game of double figure tackles finishing with 11 stops. McCoy had an important six-yard sack of sack of ECU quarterback Marcus Johnson on the Tigers last drive which effectively ended any hope of the Tigers’ attempted comeback.
McCoy currently stands second on the team in total tackles with 75 and ranks as one of the conference leaders in tackles for losses with 14 so far this year.
McCoy’s selection as defensive player-of-the-week is the third time this year a SWOSU player has been honored by the league office.
Lenahan, a junior from La Mirada, Calif., averaged 43.0 yards on five punts, including having go out of bounds inside the 20 yard line. Lenahan leads the entire LSC in punting through 10 games this season. He is averaging just over 41 yards a kick.
