SWOSU Shares Division Title

Southwestern Oklahoma State University 21, Texas A&M-Commerce 14

WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State University helped to forge a five-way tie for the Lone Star Conference North Division title with a 21-14 victory over visiting Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday in Weatherford.

SWOSU’s victory, along with Northeastern State’s upset over Central Oklahoma and Southeastern Oklahoma State’s victory over East Central, created a five-way knot atop the LSC North at 3-2. The shared LSC North title is SWOSU’s first since 1997 when the Bulldogs were co-champs with UCO. SWOSU ends the year at 6-5, the Bulldogs first time since the 1991 and 1992  seasons they had back-to-back winning campaigns.

Quarterback Steve Day threw two touchdown passes, the last of which provided to be the game winning points when he delivered a 25-yard strike to Michael Cooper to put the Bulldogs in front 21-14.

Texas A&M Commerce (5-6) led 14-6 at the break and relied heavily on Nabil El-Amin for its offensive movement. El-Amin finished with 130 yards on 23 carries and gave the Lions a 7-6 lead midway through the first with a 41-yard touchdown run.

Day finished the game as SWOSU’s offensive leader completing 19-of-31 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns.

SWOSU had 370 yards of total offense and limited the Lions to just 273. TAMC went scoreless the final two quarters and ran only four plays inside SWOSU territory the entire second half.

Desmond Baker had 11 tackles and Demarcus Render added 10 for the Bulldogs.
