RICHARDSON, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University had six football players recognized as the best at their position with the release of the Lone Star Conference North Division All-Conference Team. SWOSU, which finished the season with a 6-5 record, was one of five teams that tied for the LSC North Division Crown.

SWOSU’s Austin Ellis, Matt Wakefield, Johnathan Haggerty, Josh Postin, Ruzell McCoy and Corey Lenahan were all among 29 players chosen to the LSC North First team. The Bulldogs, along with Texas A&M-Commerce, tied for the most player’s selected to the first team with six.

Ellis, a senior offensive lineman from Burns Flat, was the only SWOSU player to repeat as a first-team selection from 2006. Ellis was chosen as the Co-Offensive Lineman-of-the-Year along with Darron Sheppard of A&M-Commerce.

Wakefield, a senior from El Reno, joined Ellis as a first-team offensive lineman selection after earning second-team honors as a junior.

Haggerty, a sophomore from Dallas, Texas, went from second-team a year ago to a first-team selection this season. He led the Bulldogs in passes caught (46), receiving yards (782) and touchdowns (6). He had three games in which he caught passes for 100 yards or more this season.

Postin, a senior from Andover, Kansas, was the Bulldogs primary blocker and used in short-yardage situations. He ran the ball 17 times for 48 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns this year. He also caught two passes out of the backfield for 10 yards.

McCoy, a junior from Frederick, was one of four linebackers chosen to the first team. His 83 tackles tied him for the team lead and his 14 stops behind the line of scrimmage was the most of any Bulldog player. He earned LSC North Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors after recording a season-high 11 tackles against East Central.

Lenahan, a junior from La Mirada, Calif., led the conference in punting averaging 41.0 yards on 57 punts. He had 17 punts, or nearly 30 percent, that were either kicked out of bounds or downed inside the 20-yard line.

SWOSU had eight other players chosen to the second team. They were return specialist Patrick Weaver, kicker Spenser Daniel, defensive tackle Eddie Walton, defensive end Joe Castle, linebacker Greg Franklin, linebacker Andre Morgan, cornerback Jonathan Thomas and safety Desmond Baker.

Two other SWOSU players – quarterback Steve Day and offensive lineman Jake Olivarez were named to the honorable mention list. Olivarez, a native of Edmond, was one of three players who shared Freshman-of-the-Year honors.
