Golfers Finish 6th at WTAMU

CANYON, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University made up considerable ground with a strong final round at the West Texas A&M University Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament. However, the Bulldogs were unable to climb past anyone on the leader board and settled for sixth-place with a 54-hole team score of 937. The two-day tournament was completed Tuesday at the Tascosa Country Club in Amarillo, Texas.

SWOSU gained 10 strokes and chased Texas A&M-Commerce to the end before the Lions regrouped and posted a 935, two strokes ahead of SWOSU. Those two teams will likely battle it out for one of the final regional qualifying berths later this month at the Lone Star Conference Tournament.

Western New Mexico was the team champion finishing with a total of 888, eight strokes ahead of the host West Texas A&M University. Southeastern Oklahoma was third with a 919 score followed by Midwestern State in fourth place at 924. A total of 12 teams competed in the tournament that featured 60 players.

West Texas A&M’s Kent Neal was the individual medalist finishing with five-over 218 after rounds of 71, 69 and 78.

Landon Ewing and Luke Phillips each shared honors for SWOSU each finishing in a tie for 16th with a +19 over par score of 232. Other SWOSU golfers and their finish are as follows: Pat McCarthy in 26th with a +24, 237; Brad Dickson in 36th with +26, 239 and Scott Kulczycki in 53rd with +34, 247.
