Surge Lifts Team to 5th

DUNCAN, OK – Southwestern Oklahoma State University fashioned one of its best rounds in recent memory posting a four-over-par 284 and jumped past six teams to finish fifth at the Territory Classic. The two-day, 36-hole men’s golf tournament was completed Tuesday at the Territory Golf Club in Duncan.

SWOSU tied eventual winner Texas Wesleyan with the best second-day round. Tyler Porter, Pat McCarthy and Scott Kulczycki each shot par or better for the Bulldogs. All three were among seven players who finished the tournament in 10th place at six-over, 146.

Texas Wesleyan won the team honors thanks to a one-two finish by Mitch Hendon and Paco Saracho. Henden was the only person in the 80-golfer field to break par on the 6,614-yard course. He shot one-under, 139 after rounds of 70 and 69.

Abilene Christian finished second with a score of 586, followed by St. Mary’s in third with 587 and Central Oklahoma in fourth at 589. A total of 18 teams competed in the event.

SWOSU found itself alone and in 11th place following a first-day score of 306 before putting it all together with a sizzling second day. SWOSU pulled ahead of Cameron, Delta State, Arkansas Tech, Dallas Baptist, Southeastern Oklahoma State, and Midwestern State over the final 18 holes.

SWOSU will next play at the Northeastern State University Invitational beginning Monday, Sept. 24.
