SWOSU Slips to Sixth

October 10, 2007

KINGSTON, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University, along with most of the golf teams entered into the Texoma Championship, fought through a challenging second day. The Bulldogs dropped from a shared third-place perch after a final round 318 left them alone and in sixth place. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was played at the par 72, 7,085-yard Chickasaw Point Golf Course outside Kingston, Okla.

SWOSU began Tuesday’s round within 10 strokes of first-day leader St. Edward’s. The Bulldogs, along with Central Oklahoma, shot a 296 and together with Abilene Christian were chasing clubhouse leader St. Edward’s who took the lead with an opening 286.

The difficult second day was reflected no more than by SWOSU’s Pat McCarthy who had a share of the individual lead Monday after a three-under, 69. McCarthy shot a second-day 78 (+6) and slipped to fourth-place tie.

St. Edward’s collected both the team and medalist honors. The Hilltoppers backed their first-round 286 with a 295 and finished at 581, 21 strokes ahead of second-place Abilene Christian. Northeastern State was third at 604, Central Oklahoma was fourth at 605 and Cameron was fifth at 608.

A total of 11 teams and 60 golfers competed in the event.

Jeff Howard of St. Edward’s was the top golfer in the field finishing with a two-under score of 142, following rounds of 72 and 70. ACU’s Patrick Hannauer was second, three strokes back at +1 over, 145.
