Men Place 8th at St. Mary's

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University put the finishing touches on its fall golf season placing eighth at the St. Mary’s Rattler Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament for the men was shortened by one round when rains fell on Pecan Valley Golf Course Monday in San Antonio.

Pat McCarthy had his fourth consecutive top 10 finish for the Bulldogs placing in a tie for 10th to lead SWOSU’s effort. McCarthy put together rounds of 75 and 76 that left him at 151, +9 over par.

The Bulldogs as a team had back-to-back rounds of 307 to finish at 614, 20 shots behind eventual champion Texas Wesleyan. TWU was an 11-stroke winner on a crowded leaderboard beating second-place Central Oklahoma (605) and third-place Northeastern State (608). A total of 16 teams and 84 golfers competed in the event.

UCO’s Colby Shrum won the medalist honor by shooting an even par, 142. Second-place went to TWU’s Mitch Hernden who was one-stroke back at one-over, 143.

Other Lone Star Conference teams and their finish are as follows: Abilene Christian and Cameron tied for sixth at 613, West Texas A&M was 10th at 631, Texas A&M-Commerce was 11th at 637 and East Central was 12th at 641.

Other SWOSU golfers and their finish are as follows: Scott Kulczycki in15th at 152, 10-over par; Tyler Porter in 34th at 157, 15-over par; Ben Claussen in 37th at 158, +16 over par; and Luke Phillips in 60th with a score of 164, +22 over par.
