Men Place Three in Top 10

THACKERVILLE, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University had three golfers finish in the top 10 but could not gain ground on the leaders and finished in sixth place at the East Central University Invitational. The 54-hole, two-day tournament was completed Tuesday at the Winstar Golf and Country Club in Thackerville.
Scott Kulczycki sandwiched a 73 and 74 around a 69 to finish with an even par 216 earning him eighth place. Teammates Pat McCarthy finished in ninth place with a one-over, 217 while Luke Phillips was 10th with a three-over, 219.
Northeastern State University, bolstered by second and third place finishes from Sam Powell and Jeff Cox, rolled to the men’s title with a team score of 865, including an eight under (280) on the final day. Midwestern State was second with a score of 875 while Cameron and Texas A&M-Commerce were tied for third at 883.
SWOSU had rounds of 295, 295 and 299 to finish at 889, 24 strokes off the pace and in sixth.
Cameron’s Peter Svajlen, who fired a 9-under 207 won the medalist honors shooting under par in all three rounds. His best effort being a 6-under 66 in the second round. He opened play on Monday with a 70 and finished up with a 71 in Tuesday’s final round.
Other SWOSU golfers and their finish were Tyler Porter in 54th with a 23-over-par score of 239 andBen Claussen in 56th with a 24-over-par total of 240.
A total of 11 teams and 60 golfers competed in the event.
SWOSU will next play March 17 at the Newman Spring Invitational at the Willowbend Golf Course in Wichita, Kan.
