Golfers Climb to Fifth at UCO

EDMOND, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University moved up one spot and finished in fifth place at the Central Oklahoma/Kickingbird Classic. The 54-hole tournament completed its two-day run Tuesday in Edmond. The Bulldogs posted a final round 294 to finish with 887 as a team and moved past Southeastern Oklahoma State into the top five.

Central Oklahoma, the host team, won the event in a one-hole playoff against Midwestern State. Both teams finished at 870. St. Edward’s, the first-day leader dropped to third, after a 293 pushed its team total to 872. Cameron University was fourth with an 883.

A total of 15 teams and 84 individuals competed in the 54-hole tournament.

Luke Phillips was SWOSU’s top finisher posting a seven-over-par 217 to place in a tie for sixth. Phillips was just six strokes off the pace set by UCO’s Colby Shrum who won medalist honors with a one-over-par 211.

Other SWOSU golfers and their finish are as follows: Pat McCarthy was 14th with a nine-over 219; Scott Kulczycki was 26th with a 13-over-par 223, Ben Claussen was 45th with an 18-over-par 228 and Tyler Porter was 57th with a 23-over-par 233.

SWOSU will next compete in the North Alabama Invitational beginning Monday, March 31 at Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
